In recent years the Arctic region has drawn international political and media attention. Increasing climate change combined with possible finding of natural resources such as oil and rare minerals have transformed the region into an arena for high politics. But while stories about oilfields, increasing waters and mines have been plentiful, there has been no attention towards the regions most important and efficient resource; the inuits.
Inuit means human beings. But what does it actually mean to be an Inuit today? That is the fundamental question behind the collaborative project Inuit Now founded by Danish photographers Lasse Bak Mejlvang and Dennis Lehmann in 2014. Aimed at telling stories in various forms about modern-day Inuits, the project will explore the concept of the Arctic through photography.
